Two corporate roundtables on animal welfare trends in the food and hospitality industries were conducted at Bangalore and Mumbai, on the 8th and 11th of March 2019 respectively. These roundtables were conducted jointly by Humane Society International/India (HSI/India) and Antoine Lewis, renowned food and wine critic. The event aimed to bring together key food and hospitality businesses together to discuss global and local advancements of animal welfare. Attended by members from over thirty of the largest and most popular international and local food and hospitality businesses, the event underlined the importance of the inclusion of animal welfare policies within food supply chains of food and hospitality businesses, and the path forward for doing so. The event succeeded in creating a space to conduct open conversations about the challenges faced by the industry to implement animal welfare policies, and discuss the path forward.

Representatives from Sodexo, IKEA, among others elaborated on the importance of the development of animal welfare commitments within corporate policies that focus on both transitioning to cage-free egg procurement, and increasing the availability of plant-based menus; and how these policies have been successfully implemented around the world. Several top chefs from the country, such as Chef Sabyasachi Gorai, Chef Vikas Seth, Chef Sudhir Pai, Chef Manish Khanna, and more discussed their experiences with plant-based food at their restaurants.
